What do I need to consider when testing spam e-mails? |
|
|
If you want to test a few e-mails, please remember to use your e-mail client's BOUNCE function (* see below) instead of forwarding e-mails in the normal way because normal forwarding changes both the text and the original sender information, which could inhibit the filter's efficiency.
If your e-mail client does not provide this function, we recommend that you manually delete the text added by your e-mail client, such as: ----- Original Message ----- From:

*BOUNCE function: Outlook calls this function "Send Again" and it can be found in the "Actions" menu if the e-mail in question is opened by a double-click. This function is not available if Outlook displays the e-mail in the preview window. |

What do I require in order to use the eXpurgate service for private customers? |
|
You just need to have two e-mail addresses. However, the e-mail account you are currently using must have an option to forward e-mails to a different e-mail address.
You can register with us, provided you've already got two e-mail addresses. Once registered, all you've got to do is arrange with your e-mail provider to have your e-mails forwarded to your virtual e-mail address at Spamfence.net (

Why do I need two different e-mail addresses? |
|
If the first e-mail address is the same as the forwarding address, a
so-called "loop" will result. This means that the checked e-mails sent
to you by eXpurgate are forwarded back to your virtual e-mail address
at Spamfence.net where they are checked again, then forwarded, etc...
Once the maximum number of "Loop Counts" has been reached, the e-mail
is returned to the sender with an error message. To prevent this from
happening, users need a second separate e-mail address. Needless to
say, this must not be set up to forward all e-mails back to the first
mailbox - otherwise you have the dreaded "Loop" effect... (cf. question
on "weird error messages")

What is an alias? |
|
|
Aliases
are e-mail addresses that are assigned to an e-mail account with a
different name / address. All e-mails sent to an alias will be
delivered to the main account. Please note that in order to use eXpurgate, you need to have two fully independent e-mail accounts.
